Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Examination is conducted by the Union
Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India, an autonomous entity
established in 1950 under Article 315 of the Constitution of India. The
Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Examination is conducted by the UPSC for
recruitment of doctors to services like Railways, Ordinance Factories,
Health Service, Central Health Service and the Municipal Corporation of
Delhi. Notifications for the Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Examination
is published every year in the month of August and the written
examinations are conducted in the month of January of the following year.
Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Examination Application Details
Notifications regarding the Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Examination
are published every year in the month of August in the Employment News and
other leading newspapers of India. Application Forms along with the
Information Brochure can be obtained from
the designated Head Post Offices / Post Offices throughout the country.
Candidates are required to mail the duly filled in Application Forms with
the acknowledgment card in a special envelope supplied with the
information brochure for the given purpose to the Secretary, Union Public
Service Commission.
Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Examination Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Exam must
possess an M.B.B.S. degree. Candidates who are yet to appear in the final
examination of the M.B.B.S. may also be allowed to appear in the
Examination but their appointment is subject to submission of proof of
having passed the final examination of the M.B.B.S. Candidates who are yet
to complete their compulsory rotational internship are also eligible but
their appointment upon selection is subject to their completing the
internship. Candidates must be aged below thirty years on 1st January of
the year of Examination. Reservations as per governmental norms are
applicable regarding age limits and job vacancies.
Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Examination Selection Procedures
Selections for the Combined Medical Services (C.M.S) Examination are made
on the basis of a written test comprising two papers, each carrying a
maximum marks of 200 and of two hours duration. Paper 1 is based on
General Medicine (includes Cardiology, Neurology, Dermatology and
Psychiatry) and Surgery (includes ENT, Ophthalmology, Traumatology and
Orthopedics).
Paper 2 contains questions on Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics,
Preventive, Social and Community Medicine. Questions in this exam will be
Objective Type, Multiple Choice and only in English.
Candidates short listed in the Written Examination are required to appear
for an Interview, which carries maximum marks of 200. Candidates selected
in the Interview are required to undergo a medical examination conducted
by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare prior to appointment.

Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji (Goa), Patna, Port
Blair, Raipur, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram,
Tirupati, Udaipur and Vishakhapatnam.
